AILASA Prizes

Early Career Researcher

The AILASA Early Career Researcher Prize is awarded annually for the best journal article by an Early Career Researcher (5 years since the award of the PhD at the final submission date for the prize) in the discipline of Iberian and Latin American Studies.

Monograph

The AILASA Monograph Prize acknowledges an outstanding book in the discipline of Iberian and Latin American Studies; including history, politics, literary and cultural studies, or any other field in the Humanities and Social and Sciences more broadly.

Lifetime Achievement Award

The AILASA Lifetime
Achievement Award is made in special circumstances following a recommendation to the
Executive Committee by any member of AILASA. It is awarded in recognition of exceptional achievement and contribution to Iberian and Latin American Studies of one of its members, as well as in recognition of exceptional service to the Association.

best honours dissertation

The AILASA Prize for the Best Honours Dissertation in the field of Iberian and Latin American Studies is awarded annually for honours dissertations produced in an Australian or New Zealand university. The prize of $200 AUD will be awarded for an Honours dissertation produced in 2020. 

2020 AILASA Awards

AILASA Award for Best Monograph
The inaugural ‘AILASA Award for Best Monograph’ is awarded to Dr Stewart King, for Murder in the Multinational State: Crime Fiction from Spain (Routledge, 2019).

AILASA Lifetime Achievement Award
The Awards Committee jointly awards the AILASA Lifetime Achievement Award to the Founding Presidents of AILASA, Dr Barry Carr and Dr Lilit Žekulin Thwaites. Dr Carr and Dr Thwaites have made invaluable individual contributions to their disciplines over their careers, as well as founding and fostering a vibrant community of scholars and scholarship on Iberian and Latin American studies.
